The Fearless Tandem
a workshop and community bike ride to share in the joys of bicycle travel.
As a recipient of the Greg Siple Award for Young Adult Bicycle Travel, Briana created and led a Bike Travel workshop for the students at Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Students learned tandem bikes basics, touring styles, cycling resources, and the principles of Leave No Trace. They also received bike and outdoor gear to kick start their adventures!
After the workshop, the students joined with Social Cycling Austin's Lend Your Legs group for a community ride. Young adults with vision impairments paired with everyday cyclists on tandem bicycles to ride to a local park. Over 70 people joined for the fearless ride!
Bicycle Travel
a way to explore places, reach destinations, embrace the outdoors, and connect with others for endless adventures.
The Greg Siple Award helps young adults get in the saddle and out on the road by providing the skills and the gear needed for a lifetime of bicycle travel adventure. Recipients of the Greg Siple Award create an outreach activity to inspire people to travel by bicycle. Briana strived to create an inviting and brave space to explore bike travel. More details on the 2019 award recipients can be found here.
The award is sponsored by Adventure Cycling Association, Arkel, Big Agnes, REI, Bedrock Sandals, and BikeFlights.com. Anyone ages 18-30 can apply!

Briana Cohen
a joyful spirit living in Austin, Texas.
Hey! I spend a good bit of my time outside, whether biking, exploring, reading on a hammock, playing trombone, or passing time with friends and kind souls. As Annie Dillard beautifully wrote, "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives." I enjoy potlucks and community gatherings because they bring a great fusion of people, cultures, languages, food, music, dance, and perspectives.
I serve as an ambassador for Adventure Cycling Association, which led me to craft the Fearless Tandem. I currently work for Ghisallo Cycling Initiative as a Community Educator and Austin Team Lead. I love to ride with Team Snacks, a stellar WTF+ cycling group, and jam in a big brass band called Blowcomotion!
Top of mind for me is bike travel, experiential education, community inclusion, outdoor exploration, environmental stewardship, and human connection. I strive to be generous with my time and resources. Scroll to the bottom of the page for an outline of the bike workshop and other helpful tips! Reach out if you want to collaborate or say hey, chirp chirp!
